First the sensual...
You don't have to spend a fortune to create a delicious, decadent bathroom that goes way beyond just bathing. Sometime life can just be too much and to help cope with it, you should take a bath. Ask yourself what your ideal bathroom would look like, if price were not an issue. Really think about what you want from your bathroom. The details can be very tantalizing. Think about it.....
The largest difference between the closet size bath and the empress-like opulence you may long for is Cost. A full bathroom remodel can cost between $3000 and $20,000 depending structural changes, finishing materials and fixtures. Now with some minor changes you can introduce color, texture and polish to make your bathroom a sensual space. The key to a sensual bathroom is to remember all your senses.

On to the practical.....A place for everything and everything in its place.
We are going to be looking at various bathroom layouts that will help make the most efficient use of your bathroom. Since the average bath is usually relegated to a relatively small amount of space, a proper layout is needed so that the location of features allow for ease and economy of movement. We are going to talk about tricks and tips that will make your small bathroom space appear bigger.
The Half Bath/Powder Room:
This is usually a small space (4"6"/5"x 4"6"/5" up to 6'/7' x 2'/3' depending on layout) equipped only with a toilet and a sink. Often called a "powder room" and located in the front entry way or another public area as powder rooms are for guest use and not typically for family use. Light tones and colors help give the appearance of space. Using large format tiles on the floor and walls can create a seamless visual effect. Small pieces of pottery designed specifically for corners further create an illusion of space. Floating vanities and toilets keep the line of tiles unbroken and that creates a perception of space. (You should always ensure that internal walls are sturdy enough to support the fittings you choose.)
The Three Quarter Bath:
The 3/4 bath consists of a toilet, a sink and a shower only. NO bathtub. Three quarter baths are considered by most people to be an ideal second bathroom. Avoid adding too many elements as this can cause visual clutter. A lighted in-shower shaving mirror is ideal in this space. Corner or pentangle shower enclosures will fit better in smaller spaces. Consider sliding/bi fold doors for your shower enclosure as to not obstruct the rest of the room. However if you have small children in the home then a bathroom without a tub is not ideal. So lets peek at a full bath.
The Full Bath:
The full bath consists of a sink, a toilet, and a shower/bathtub. It is most often located in a hallway so as to serve adjacent bedrooms and is large enough to accommodate a tub. If you have more than one of these bathrooms between bedroom consider a Jack & Jill bath without a hall entrance. Now to use the space effectively, take advantage of the space between wall studs by recessing a tall storage cabinet into the wall. This will maximize storage while saving on floor space. Invest in a quality toilet. (We have several models of toilets here at Yourplumberscrack that won't break your bank). Public opinion states that elongated bowls are the most comfy. Now on the the master bath...
The Master Bathroom:
This bathroom usually has a double sink vanity, a toilet (perhaps hidden in a tucked away partition), and shower/tub or if enough space is involved a separate soaking tub and shower stall. This bathroom typically part of the master suite and is intended for the private use of the bedroom occupants. Perhaps you don't want to worry over your wet/dry areas in the bath, then consider in floor drains for your shower (We have a lovely one). You can do a double vanity or separate vanities for more flexibility if room permits. Partitions can be used to define areas within this bath. (tuck that toilet away if you want). You may also want your closet area off your master bath this leaves the walls of your master suite for other things (art/television/built-ins, whatever makes you happy)
